Risk Management and Compliance Consultants

Judith A. Dorian

Judy Dorian has worked in the employee benefits industry for over 25 years, currently as an independent consultant who provides consulting services and training on employee benefits and IRA administration for financial institutions.

Prior to forming her own consulting business, Judy most recently served as Chief Risk Management Officer for Citistreet. Previously she had served as the manager of the Compliance Department in the Retirement Investment Services Division of State Street Bank.

Judy began her career at Rhode Island Hospital Trust National Bank in Providence, RI. During her tenure there, she advanced from Trust Representative to Assistant Vice President and her work included exposure to defined benefit and defined contribution plans ranging in size from single employer plans to multiple plans for a Fortune 500 company.

In 1990, she moved to Fleet National Bank, also in Providence RI. At Fleet, she started out as Vice President and Manager of the Employee Benefits Trust Department and moved into Employee Benefit Compliance. Responsibilities at Fleet included development and oversight of policies and procedures and training on fiduciary compliance issues. Both Fleet and Rhode Island Hospital National Bank were acquired by entities that are now Bank of America.

While at Fleet, Judy developed a comprehensive Employee Benefits Policy Manual for the 86 employee benefits offices in 6 states that had been acquired by Fleet through that date. Her responsibilities included updating that manual as legislation and business circumstances required. During that period, she also developed a separate policy manual to address unusual and unique assets being held in IRAs in various company locations.

She is a frequent presenter at industry conferences and has had her work published in industry journals. Specific to training, she has provided "ERISA Basic Training" for the OCC in Washington, DC, and has spoken at the FFIEC Annual Asset Management Conference.

Judy was a member of the Board of Directors of the Fiduciary and Investment Risk Management Association where she chaired the Nominating Committee. She was also a longtime member of the Fiduciary Risk Management and Compliance Roundtable and served on its Membership Committee. Judy served on the Planning Committee for BAI's Fiduciary Risk Management Conference from 1996 through 2007. In addition to her industry affiliations, Judy is a docent at the Rhode Island School of Design Museum of Art; she teaches basic computer skills to seniors through the RSVP volunteer program and serves on the RSVP Council.
